Too Much Protein?
Posted by: KittyKat(einehpets.r8@gmail.com) 1/6/2009
Hi, I'm a 22 yr. old female, 5'6 120ish lbs. I'm fairly active and according to what I heard you're supposed to take however many grams of protein as you weigh in lean body mass. I know protein is good for you and you need alot of it to build muscle (which is awesome :)However, I have also heard that too much protein can rob your body of calcium. I would like to increase my muscle, but I don't want to rob my bones of proper calcium or get Osteoperosis when I'm older. Help!

What Is Bodybuilding?
Posted by: Alex 11/6/2008
Bodybuilding is the process of maximizing muscle hypertrophy. Someone who engages in this activity is referred to as a bodybuilder. In competitive bodybuilding, bodybuilders display their physiques to a panel of judges, who assign points based on their aesthetic appearance. The muscles are revealed through a combination of fat loss, oils, and tanning (or tanning lotions) which combined with lighting make the definition of the muscle group more distinct. Famous bodybuilders include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno, Franco Columbu, and current Mr. Olympia Dexter Jackson.

Just Started Strength Traning My Whole Body
Posted by: Laural (Conroy@hotmail.com) 10/2/2008
Just started strength training my body and i am confused as to why I gained 2 pounds right away when I eat the same as before, very healthy and mix cardio in as well. I started strength training to tone and lose the last stubborn pounds i never expected to gain more weight. Plus, I just finished my first whole body strength training session for my upper and lower body and a day later my body still feels very sore. I have never felt this sore before and I am only 33, walking does not effect my body like this so I guess i am hitting upon muscles i have never worked before, hence the pain, am i right?

My Chest Is Uneven - How Do I Fix This?
Posted by: Jay (jayjayflies@yahoo.com) 8/22/2008
Hello, I'm 16 years old and I have just recently started working out again and I noticed that my chest is uneven. My left pec is more built and has more muscle than my right one. Needless to say, the right pec is a bit "saggier" than the other.
How would I fix this problem? I thought about adding 5lbs to the right side of the bar but that just makes it feel awkward and hurts my wrist. Any help would be appreciated!

Rest Periods between Workouts
Posted by: Jonathan Holt (jonathanwholt@hotmail.co.uk) 8/18/2008
im 21, 86kgs and a serious trainer. i have been working out for about 5 months solidly since a stomach operation that caused me to loose a stone in weight. I have gained that back and more, and now that I am fully recovered i want to push for more gains. Unfortunately, I work over 50 hours a week and can only make the gym 3 times per week. I split my sessions into chest and tris, back and bis, and legs and shoulders, but sometimes this means I leave over a week in between, for example, chest sessions. Is this okay or will it harm my progress? What is the ideal rest period (if there is one)?

Six Pack and Pecks
Posted by: Richard Longmuir (rlongm10@caledonian.ac.uk) 8/12/2008
Hey I am 6ft and 70kg and have been trying to get a six pack and pecks for a while now. I have a good diet but I am vegetarian. I eat 3 portions of fruit for breakfast, rice with vegetables for lunch and pasta with vegetables for dinner and drink plenty of fruit juice, water and milk. I also play a lot of golf, football, tennis and cycle. My workout is 200 sit ups, 50 crunches, 50 press ups, 200 bench presses and 200 dumbbell lifts a day. This sometimes varies if I get a chance to go to my uni gym. I have also tried whey and creatine after doing big workouts but nothing seems to be working. Any advice?
Re: Six Pack and Pecks
Posted by: Steven (bigbaddog02@yahoo.com) 8/19/2008
body: For wanting a sixpack and big muscles you are doing it all wrong.
For the abs lots of crunches are good like you are doing now.
For the pecks its a different story. Do a couple sets of 10 reps with increasing weight as you go. Say 6 sets of chest exercises. You can do 2 bench 2 db fly/ db press, and use a pec dec if you can. Doing endurance exercises like biking and running make the muscles more defined. You can either bike and run less, or (for both) jog for 1 minute, sprint for 30 sec, jog for 1 minute...

I was wondering considering i am an ectomorph will i still gain muscle if i continue to train for size but not eating a vast amount of protein or will eating lots of protein make my gains faster or will my gains stay the same as i am still growing.

I'VE BEEN WORKING OUT FOR 3 MONTHS NOW
Posted by: Chris (coehring@vt.edu) 7/26/2008
Hey. I am 6'1", 138 lbs, and have been working out for 3 months now with little to no gain in muscle. I eat 5-6 meals a day (they are relatively small, but get bigger as the day goes on), and work out 3 days in a row with a rest day afterwards (i go in 4 day cycles). Day one I work on just my chest, day two I work on legs and abs, and day three I work on back, arms, and shoulders. Each session is about 45 min plus or minus 15. I drink one to two protein shakes a day (American Whey, which I have been told by numerous people is a great formula), no creatine (though I am debating it now) and all I have seen is a loss in weight.
I am really trying to put muscle on but I dont know what I am doing wrong. Help?
Re: I'VE BEEN WORKING OUT FOR 3 MONTHS NOW
Posted by: Derek 7/29/2008
If you've been working out and not gaining weight you're probably doing too light a weight and too many reps. Try a routine that focuses more on pure strength and less toning. Trust me if you're already skinny you will get toned too. Do as heavy as you can lift 6-8 reps, 3 sets, and alternate sets with no more than a min break between sets. I am 19 and 5'10" and I was just over 130lbs 3when I started lifting. I found a decent workout routine and in 2 months I put on about 20lbs or muscle and maybe 2-5 in the most recent month. I eat a lot of high protein food and drink GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60 (it works really well) about 20 mins after lifting. I suggest starting out doing a split routine that works at least two muscle groups per workout. And CHANGE THINGS UP! Make sure you change your routine every 4 weeks otherwise you will just plateau.
Re: I'VE BEEN WORKING OUT FOR 3 MONTHS NOW
Posted by: Sebastian (sebastianhammer@yahoo.com) 8/16/2008
Sounds like you are just not eating enough. If you are going to gain weight you need to eat more! It takes about 3000 additional calories to gain one pound. How many calories are you eating?

FLABBY PECS

I have been working out for about five years and am in pretty good shape but my pecs are still kind of flabby. For chest exs I do flat bench, incline, decline, and butterfly machine. Any ideas?
Re: FLABBY PECS
Posted by: Adro (supersupplements123@gmail.com) 7/8/2008
If you are workouting heaps and know what chest exercises to do and you see that you just can't get rid of the flab in the pecs, this is the excess subcutaneous fat that is flabbing around.
While still maintaining a hard challenging workout routine, I suggest that you need a super strength diuretic supplement that helps you lose the excess water bodyfat in your muscles. Not only you will lose this excess water fat from your pecs, your body will look more toned, ripped, and vascular...
Visit the site below for more information about shredding and toning supplements that will get you ripped and lose that excess water subcutaneoud fat in your muscles.
This also applies to love handles as well.

WANT BIG BUTT BACK

I have a crisis! I'm very self concsious of my butt. It used to be big and firm before I had a child 14 months ago(like j-lo's maybe a bit bigger). I gained 43 lbs during pregnancy within 10 months of birth I lost 56 lbs. I think that's too much for my body shape. I'm 5'7" 127lbs. BMI 20.1. Due to my weight loss I lost my butt too. I was very sressed about 3-4 months ago and didn't eat right or healthy for about 2 months and lost about 13 lbs in 1 1/2 months. I now eat 4-5 times daily for about 2 months. No weight gain what so ever. I've been doing certain excercises(specifically for my butt area) on average of 3 times a week, plus chasing my little man around all day everyday. No results. Should I drink a protein shake after excerciseing or should I be doing weight training with protein shakes? Should I be doing more reps of the excercises I do? I do side lounges with side kick-15 each, walking lunges with twist of upper body-6big room lenghts, step up with back kick-15 each leg, squats with side kick 15 each leg(total of 30 squats), then I do ones on all 4's 30 each leg, and I do this one I found on the net 10 each leg-hurts at that point. GETTING STARTED

Hi, I have just turned 30 and have never dieted or lifted weights in my life. I guess my metabolism has slowed down, and I have went from the regular weight of 185 to my current weight of around 205 in the past three years. I would like to start doing cardio and working out (not to gain a lot of muscle, just see if I can get cut). I see a lot of different suggestions on how to lose the weight and get cut, I know that running is a good thing, but what about eating? Is six small meals the way to go? I think I can figure everything out as far as the cardio and the lifting, but what to eat and when to eat it confuses me....?

Re: 6-PAC
Posted by: Jerad (jnh2misc@yahoo.com) 3/20/2008
The abdominal excercises will build up the abdominal muscles but they will not be visible if you have even a small layer of fat over them. Remember, fat cannot be turned to muscle. Muscle will just develop under existing fat. The only way to burn fat is through cardiovascular excercise, at least 30 minutes per day. Of course, due to varying genetics, this may not be enough for everyone. A proper diet also helps. Then, there are some people who due to genetics might never have a six pack. It is unfortunate but true. There is also the possibility that you might be overdoing it with the abdominal excercises. After all, the abs are muscles like any other in your body and do need time to recover.

ABS

Hello, I've been working out steadily for four months at home, 150 lbs, and I plan on getting more serious as I get older (Only 15). Anyways, when I was younger I had surgery that was in the area of my right middle ab, I have defined muscle in all of my other ab muscles, but this one refuses to grow in any significant manner.
I do around 100 situps a day aswell as lower ab exercises- is there any way I can focus on this muscle?
Also- what would you say is the best way to do curls with only dumbells and barbells at home? I used to sit on the edge of my bed and curl 1 arm at a time, but I now realise it may be cushuning some of the weight lifted.
Thanks in advance.

been said that "Your mind is your strongest muscle." Dianetics

shows you how to locate the blocks and barriers to your full

When I first read this thing I thought it was like all the other fad books - but it blew me away. The third section is all about actually doing it, practical application. I have been using Dianetics for over ten years now to anything from relieving stress to overcoming personal hangups. It is the only self-help book I know that actually delivers. Check it out!

I found this book incredibly helpful in explaining what was going on with me and how to improve myself. I read the book and then did some of the techniques and WOW, they work and I love it.
Over the last several years I can't believe the changes in me, I'm much friendlier, happier and getting on in life so much better. Many old friends are stunned at the improvement in attitude and have told my wife: "whatever you've done to him, keep it up" :-)

CHEST AND ABS
Posted by: Cameron (cpritchett@att.blackberry.net) 1/5/2008
I'm 14. I'm average height and weigh about 125 lbs. I workout constantly now; im addicted. I go to the gym 3 times a week. But I mostly use the bench press and free weights at my house. I do about 20 push-ups and 50 curl-ups every 15 minutes or so, in addition to running every morning and doing workout tapes. I have really good biceps, calves, and back muscles for my size and age. And i have a good 6-pack. But my real focus is the chest and pecs. How can I improve my pec and chest size quickly?
Re: CHEST AND ABS
Posted by: Talor Ryan (totaltonedwomensclub@gmail.com) 1/6/2008
It is great you are so into fitness, i wish that when I was your age I understood the importance and benefits. Just make sure not to get too addicted! Keep workouts ONLY 3-5 days per week as you will see the best results since your body will have time to rest and rebuild, this is when muscle building happens. Also since at this age you are also growing make sure you are eating plenty of nutritious calories. !. to substain growth and 2. for muscle building. this is the only way you will see great results. Keep with the bench press and pushups. These are great chest exercises also think about lateral raises and pull ups if you have the means.

I was playing line backer and defensive end and at one point was 225lbs at a height of 6'2". Since playing football I have changed the way I eat (all natural for the most part) and I am now 194lbs with love handles and small arms. Re: I WANT TO GAIN 40 POUNDS BY MARCH 2008

The usual standard is try and take in as many grams of protein as your wiehgt. for example if you weigh 150, take in 150 grams of protein a day. Try and drink a protein shake approx. 2 hours after each workout, this is the time that the body starts to rebuild and needs the extra protein.

LEG EXTENTIONS

Hi. I have a barbell Squat and a HEAVY (420lbs) leg extentions machine at home. The thing is I have no squat rack, so its hard to go heavy. Can I build big powerful quads with heavy leg extentions and lighter squats?
Re: LEG EXTENTIONS
Posted by: Mike (mvasquez830@yahoo.com 10/19/2007
No you must do heavy squats ranging from heavy 4 reps to light 12 reps by doing so you will hit a multiple of muscle fibers, also by doing different squat stances by changing your feet you will develop overall mass around your thigh and not just be quadricep heavy and have leg inbalance. you must also incorporate deadlifts. the deadlift and squat are core excercises that develop overall mass. the leg extention machine is more of a shaping exercise not really a mass developer.

Re: NO WEIGHT GAIN
Posted by: rodawg (rodawg169@yahoo.com) 9/11/2007
hey man the reason you aren't getting any better is because you probably aren't eating enough. when i did weight training before i joined the military i ate 6-7 times a day with protein shakes 2-3 times a day. i worked out 6 times a week targeting different parts of my body and certain days would be devoted to heavy weight lifting with low reps and other days was low weight lifting with speed and several reps. in order to gain weight you need to take in more calories than you are burning. you are probably not getting enough calories in and your workouts (no offense) could be low intensity. when i went to BUD/S, my weight lifting did nothing for me. i had little stamina and my cardio was never worked hard enough. the seals got me in endurance shape. the workouts we did were a ton of running (we ran 24/7) and crossfit workouts. the only weight lifting we did were with a 210 lb. log and 110 lb. IBS (rubber boat). i got more ripped and bigger and on top of that i can outwork most anyone i am put up against. what i am saying is. do at least 2 workouts a day (i really suggest crossfit for best all around results) and make sure you keep the intensity up to the point at which you feel like passing out. the body can do more than you think and you just have to push yourself. take Cyto Gainer protein pre/post workout and eat a ton of food every meal and through out the day eat some peanut butter sandwiches on wheat bread. when i did this, i had incredible results (went from 150-170 in about 3 mo.) make sure you workout long and hard and always push the intensity but keep in mind you need to be taking in more calories than you are spending (healthy cals). 40-60% carbs 20-30% proteins 20-30% fats. that should be your diet. good luck with your training.

Re: WRISTS AND FOREARMS

Take the bench press bar, sitting on the bench hold your hand over the end just about the middle of your forearm and let the bar roll into your fingers and then pull it back up with your wrists. If its to much weight try a cambered bar or another lighter bar.
Re: WRISTS AND FOREARMS
Posted by: Brian (nowandahead@hotmail.com) 12/1/2007
The best exercise i have found for wrists ( and really time efficient ) Is the wrist roller. Just buy a peice of (plastic or metal) pipe 1 inch thick and about as long as your shoulder width. Drill a hole through the midle and tie on a peice of 4 mm cord (1-2 metre's long) then find a carabiner small enough to fit through the hole in the weight plates you will be using, tie this to the end of the cord. I stand on 2 chairs for extra height and go as heavy as you can for 1 set of 3 reps(3 up 3 down) I do these at the end of a workout twice a week. And they have given the best shape and size to my forearms, veins bursting out everywhere.

Re: ABS
Posted by: Fit4life (a_stud23@hotmail.com) 7/7/2007
What you must remember is you can work your abs as much as you want but the other muscles that are around the abs need to be strengthened as well. Your back and chest both help to develop your abdominal muscles. Also mix up your workouts your body is a smart creation and it will get used to a regular workout. Try mixing it up every 3-5 weeks.
Re: ABS
Posted by: ? (?) 8/1/2007
Doing crunches and other ab exercises just strengthen the ab muscles. In order to get a six pack that shows you need to do a ton of cardio to burn off the fat around your midsection that hides those ab muscles. You could do thousands of crunches for months on end, but you will never get that desired six pack that shows without the adequate amount of cardio.

6 PACK, BICEPS AND TRICEPS

body: Hi, im 15 years old and i want to get a 6 pack as soon as posible, after that i want to work on my biceps and triceps, can any tell a a good routine to build this muscles fast.
Re: 6 PACK, BICEPS AND TRICEPS
Posted by: Mike Guardiola (mg60@txstate.edu) 8/3/2007
In response to your tricep/bicep question, just a tip I picked up from reading tons of books and sites and of course self-experimentation. Skull Crushers(lying triceps extensions) are killer for adding mass to triceps. Flex your triceps in between sets while working on them. This keeps them in work mode until you are done with your triceps routine. I have found the standing barbell curl to be the best for adding solid muscle to the belly of the bicep. They will look round and full. Try not to rock backwards or tilt your wrists at the top of the movement. A good way to prevent from rocking is to put your back against a wall while doing the standing barbell curl. Good luck.

SUPPLEMENTS
Posted by: todd frost(tfrosty@optonline.net) 6/25/2007
I am 15 years old and 136 lbs, and I have been lifting for 1 year. I started taking Muscle Milk about 3 months ago. Even though it worked wonders it did make me gain a few pounds, but I was able to deal with it. My new stack for the lasts few weeks is one scoop of naNO Vapor, and a scoop of six start Creatine fuel. I have dropped to 155lbs from 185lbs in bench pressing after tacking them. I went from 80lbs to 130lbs naturally, and continued from 130lbs to 185lbs with muscle milk. I don t understand why I went down so much from tacking naNO Vapor and Creatine? But with every other muscle group, for example my arms, when I curl I went up about 10lbs to 95lbs in a week. Why did my new stack of supplements making me decrees in bench press but nothing else?
Re: SUPPLEMENTS
Posted by: Ron Green(twotigersfitness@cox.net) 7/4/2007
Supplements will not have an effect on specific lifts. The body does not work like that. It is your training. The body allocates nutrition as a responsive need that is initially started by an action. Remember that when it comes to making progress in exercise performance, a person must evaluate several things: sufficient rest and stimulus on muscle groups and the body as a whole.

Your forearms are the one of the most used muscles. So they do not so to say blink an eye when you do normal repetitions and sets as you would do for every other muscle group.
Train your forearms till exhaustion and then give them a good rest. Look for different ways to train them: hand grippers, isometrics for example. I wish you much success!

I had the same problem a couple of years back and I learn that to get rid of this problem is to first measure the amount of body fat around your abs area then do two days of cardio and three days of moderate weight training and drink about a 8 oz glass of water every hour or with every meal and exercise your abdominl 2 times a week doing on the first day lower for about 90minutes and the second day upper make sure on those two days of rest you eat plenty of protein and vegtables manly eggs, fish, and chicken backed and with in twelve weeks you will have a lean body.

Rheo H Blair has been the only true genius in the history of bodybuilding nutrition. He invented protein powder and his nutritional program is the stuff of legends. Some of the greatest bodybuilders of the 1950s, 60s and 70s used his protein supplement and followed his program to achieve the best shape of their lives. Among his success stories are the legendary Larry Scott, Dave Draper, Gable Paul Boudreaux, Steve Davis, Stan Brice, Frank Zane, Don Howorth and many others. Most of his secrets were lost after his death - until now. Check out this great website telling how you can get a

Hi. I have been a wrestler from age 5 to age 22. Now at age 36, I have only really begun to explore and understand body muscular developement. In the sport of wrestling, balance and core strength are 2 of the most inportant things for winning. John Smith is a 4 time D 1 national champ and olympic gold medalist, but he is skinny as a rail. Big arms are impressive, but may not be the key to winning. I suggest Core strength exercises: front and side static planks, unverted situps, reverse arches for lower back. Also, for balance, do dumbell exercises like pec flies, curls, and military while seated on a balance ball. have your son increase his protien intake and decrease his carb intake. reducing carbs and increasing cardio should shed some fat while higher protien should continue to feed the muscles. Good luck.

its not just after your work out its all day, you need 1 gram of protien for every pound of your weight.
if you're 100lbs. you need 100grams of protein a day.

This should help you
HOMEMADE WEIGHT-GAINER
3 cups of whole milk
3 whole eggs
1 cup of vanilla (chocolate or strawberry can be substituted) ice cream
2 bananas
1 cup of nonfat-powdered milk
This is a HIGH powdered protein shake that comes to about 1600 calories, so taking this at least two times a day, you should pack on considerable size onto your frame.
