Distance Running and Weight Training

Posted by: Nate (incline_runner@yahoo.com)

I am a 17 year old male who runs high school cross country. I am serious about both running and lifting weights. I run about 50 miles a week and I manage to lift weights after I run(4-5 days a week). Am I limiting my strength gaining potential by running so much? If so is there something I can do to make gains in both running and lifting weights, possibly without lowering the intensity of either activity?

I'm 18, and I used to run distance as well. However, I began weight-training, and after gaining about 20 pounds of muscle, I found myself slowing down. Weight training didn't hurt my sprinting, but as for distance, putting on muscle mass isn't much help.
