Developing a bodybuilding program is more than just lifting weights. So what is it that makes a great bodybuilding program? Good bodybuilding programs are actually a lifestyle.
An efficient program will not only include an exercise program but also good nutrition and proper rest. By following the basic guidelines list below you will be on your way to creating a great program that will build muscle, improve your overall health and reduce your risk of injury.
Create weekly routine for muscle building
Your bodybuilding program should include a variety of exercises to target each specific muscle group. As a weekly routine create a program that will rotate into separate days each individual muscle group and work every muscle in that group. Growing muscle is as simple as providing adequate resistance with weights to make the targeted muscle work.
It is important to start with the highest weight you can use while still maintaining proper form. This means starting low and gradually building the amount of weight used over time as your muscle gains strength. Never over strain your muscles by lifting too much too fast, as it will injure the muscle by tearing tissue and hinder your progress.
Good Nutrition
Good nutrition is the basis of any quality bodybuilding program. In order for your body to build new muscle it must have quality fuel. Muscle is protein so good nutrition must include loading your diet with high protein and maintaining your body's energy levels with plenty of carbohydrates.
Fats are also vital to proper body function and must be a part of your diet even if you are trying to loose weight along with your bodybuilding program. While small amounts of fats are required for normal muscle grow, make sure you choose heart healthy unsaturated varieties such as vegetable, canola or coconut oils.
Adequate Hydration
Proper hydration is also essential before, during and after any exercise program. Your body is made up of 45%-75% water, depending on the level of fat. Water not only replaces fluids lost in perspiration but also helps flush toxins from your body and is required to replace and rebuild cells.
Give room for rest
It is important to schedule rest days into your bodybuilding program. You know you've had a good work out when you feel the burn. But the "burn" you feel after a workout is lactic acid building up. Lactic acid is naturally produced, a byproduct, in muscles during exertion. In order to get the full advantage of your bodybuilding program you must rest to allow your body time to flush out this byproduct and rebuild and repair the muscle tissue.
Working at a great bodybuilding program will build you a better body. With hard work and determination you can have the toned, fit, well-sculptured body you've always wanted.
