It is best to give a bit of very interesting history here about the progression since the turn of the century where at the Olympic games 1916 Joe Nordquest presses 363 lbs. (165 kg). These world records are usually set at Olympic Games held through the world. At the last Olympic Games 2008 Ryan Kennelly presses 1075 lbs. (488.64 kg). (November 8). It should be emphasized here that not all breaking of the world records in bench-press have occurred in the Olympic Games. But you will see that just as when the first squat went passed the 1000lb record there were plenty of competitors that were suddenly able to do it. This just proves the power of the mind when lifting any weight.
