All You Need to Know about Cardio
Some people perform cardio and some avoid it.
What about you?
You should include it in your program, because cardio work improves
your rate of recovery.
Cardio benefits your body by improving the efficiency of the recovery
process. The body receives a benefit from cardio fitness as oxygen
is used to transport waste products away.
The result is that someone with superior cardio conditioning is able
to use oxygen more efficiently to help them recover faster from
exercise, and therefore able to train and perform with greater
effectiveness. So you want to include cardio in your training routine
on a regular basis because those recovery capabilities transfer over
into your weight training efforts.
Fat Burning Point
How long should you perform the cardio?
The point in the exercise where you start to burn more fat than you
do carbs comes at the 20 minute mark. So you want to absolutely make
your workout last for 20 minutes or longer of non-stop cardio
activity.
What type of cardio?
Anything that gets your metabolism going strong. Running is always
good. Biking, including the recumbent bike, is another option.
Rowing is a challenging cardio exercise. Some people like swimming.
Just make sure that you go for more than 20 minutes per session. Get
in 2-3 sessions a week.
Cardio is vital for your health as well, and a prime factor for the
conditioning of the heart and lungs.
When performing cardio on the same day that you do weight training,
always start with the weight training as this will let you use the
carb fuel for the weights, and then burn fat for the cardio routine.
