Should You Eat Carbs after 7 p.m.?

The answer is yes and no. It depends upon the type of carbohydrates you have. Fiber You can have carbohydrates in the form of fiber as this helps your body digest and eliminate food in the most efficient manner. Fiber also keeps your appetite under control and that’s not a bad thing to have going for you in the evening.

Simple Sugars The carbs you do not want to eat after 7 p.m. are sugar carbs. This includes regular sugar, sugar substitutes, and simple sugars like the white flour in bread or bagels. This stuff goes onto your body as fat fairly easily and especially at night time when your metabolism is running lower. So avoid sugars and simple sugars after 7 p.m. and consider starting that avoidance even earlier, such as 5 p.m. Complex Carbs Complex carbs fall in the middle between fiber carbs and sugar carbs. You can have a little, but don't have too much. Complex carbs take longer to digest and thus keep your metabolism going long after they are eaten. As with fiber, they keep your blood sugar at an even pace, which is great in the evening. Submit A Fitness Tip If you have a tip you'd like to share e-mail it to us
