Straight Barbell vs EZ Curl Bar
The EZ curl bar was developed a few decades ago and was a fad
training tool but it has some real benefits. It never did replace
the straight bar but is still in use in some gyms.
Wrist Placement
The straight bar puts your wrist in an extreme supinated position.
The EZ curl allows you to work the curl with the wrist in a
different position. This stimulates the bicep in a different way.
The position of the EZ curl bar is halfway between a hammer curl and
a regular curl.
While many ignore the EZ curl, it actually provides the biceps with
a good solid workout. Nothing can supplant the regular curl as a
training tool but the EZ curl, if used as a supplement, is a good
exercise.
Multi-Dimensional
The EZ curl is also multi-dimensional. That is, you can use it with
several different hand placements as the bar is contoured over a
large area. And you can also use it with a reverse grip for some
real stimulation of the brachialis muscles.
The EZ curl is a solid exercise that can benefit your arms but
should only be used as a supplement to regular straight bar curling.
For overall biceps work, the straight bar is the way to go as it
works the biceps in a wider position of supination.
The EZ curl never made it as a replacement for the straight bar curl
but it can be used to compliment the straight bar in a biceps
routine.
