Digestive enzymes for bodybuilding

It is unfortunate that bodybuilding has been exposed to so many different theories like you should never eat protein with carbs or that you can only process 30 grams of protein in one sitting. None of these rumors are true simply because they have not been conclusively proven in clinical studies.

In 2009 funds were transferred to sponsor the specific study of digestive enzymes on athletes and bodybuilders alike in a recognized clinical study that was published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. The study conclusively proved that actinidin increased the speed of protein digestion or sodium casseinate found in beef protein.

They also found that actinidin will enhance digestion of the proteins that usually sit in the stomach as they take a lot longer to digest. The study conclusively demonstrated that digestive enzymes like actinidin (bromelain) is able to digest any and all protein more effectively than pepsin and pancreatin which are the standard natural digestive enzymes found in the gut.

Actinidin is part of the family proteases that all contain free sulfhydryl which is essential for speeding up this protein digestion just like bromelain found in kiwi fruit and pineapples (Ananas comosus). The study revealed that Bromelain is the key to speeding up protein digestion.

Bromelain is no ordinary proteolytic enzyme as it can multi-task by helping to break down proteins as well as speed up the healing of common sports injuries and also effectively speed up muscle repair. The same study done in 2009 also showed that bromelain was able to reduce all muscle strength losses seen after doing heavy eccentric exercise by correctly regulating all leukocyte activity including inflammation.

The bottom line is that if you are a bodybuilder who wants to grow muscle at a faster rate but cannot afford expensive bromelain digestive enzymes then all you need to do is eat kiwi fruit and pineapples on a regular basis which will also naturally reduce any and all inflammation that you might have.
