Vitamins supplements are taken by millions of individuals everyday. Supplements are taken for improved memory function, increased energy, iron deficiency and more. However very few people think to take amino acids. Amino acids taken as a dietary supplement is often over looked simply because many individuals don't realize their importance. Amino acids are the building blocks for protein which is why amino acids are safe to take for bodybuilding. Anyone who desires the full benefit from weight training should incorporate amino acids into their diet. Amino acids are the building blocks for protein which are essential for muscle development.

There are 20 amino acids that make up the protein needed in living organisms. There are 10 essential amino acids that must be consumed in the diet. These amino acids are arginine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine. Amino acid deficiency is common among vegetarians and those who diet. The lack of absorption or metabolism in the body can cause illness. Amino acid side effects are rare. In most cases amino acids are harmless however tyrosine in large quantities can cause rapid heart beat, restlessness and anxiety.

The benefits of amino acids far out weigh some of the possible side effects which usually occur in extremely large doses. Although it is difficult to consume enough to cause these problems you should make sure to drink plenty of water. Taking amino acids without enough water can cause kidney problems. The benefits of amino acids are an improved ability to fight diseases. Amino acids can be purchased at any health food store, pharmacy or drug store. Amino acids can be sold individually or in a combination form.

Taking a single amino acid could cause an imbalance therefore a supplement that has a balance can help to prevent this problem. The most popular amino acids that are available over the counter are lysine, tryptophan, tryrosin, arginine, and glutamine. Many amino acids can be found in the foods that we consume. Tryptophan can be found in legumes, beans, nuts, and grains. Taurine which can be found in fish can also cause depression when taken in high dosage. If you plan to incorporate amino acids into your diet you should remember to consult your physician if you suffer from liver or kidney disease.
