The Bright Side Of Summer: Vitamin D

The best source of Vitamin D is sunshine.  During the summer months, we automatically feel better.  Is it the warmer weather or is it because we get exposed to more of the sun's rays that makes our skin produce vitamin D, which is vital for so many processes in the body.

It was believed that vitamin D was mainly responsible for healthy bones and the deficiency of it caused rickets and osteoporosis.  Out of 30,000 genes in the human body, 2,000 of them are directly influenced by vitamin D.  The most rampant one in the winter months in the northern states is Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.)  The less time we spend exposed to the sun, the more of our vitamin D gets reduced.  With recent research, we now know many diseases are associated with vitamin D deficiency here's a list of some of them:

The best way is always going to be through natural sunshine.  The second best is through specific tanning beds that produce UVB rays and finally your third option is supplements.
