What dairy is helpful and what you should avoid
Avoid most dairy when you're on a high definition diet to get lean
I was asked about why you should avoid cheese while on a high definition diet.
Vince was against eating dairy while getting lean for a number of reasons. Before I get into those, let me into the difference between dairy quality. Vince has always been FOR certified raw dairy. The most natural dairy you can get. When you're building muscle, drinking raw certified milk and its products made of it like yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, butter, cream, sour cream are extremely beneficial. Besides the excellent protein content, they contain friendly bacteria that improve your health and digestion as well as live enzymes.
Back to the topic at hand. Milk and yogurt also contain carbohydrates in the form of milk sugar (lactose). Some people are either allergic or intolerant to them and react a certain way (some get bloated, some have increased phlegm. Same goes for casein (which is the name of a family of phosphoproteins) most people do well on it yet others react.
When Vince was recommending his high-definition diet, he wanted to make sure it worked for everyone so he excluded anything that could potentially prevent you from getting lean. He also realized that some people may miss the "certified raw" and "organic" adjectives and only see "milk, cheese, yogurt". Sadly processed cheese and pasteurized dairy are a totally different can of worms which I will likely cover in a future article. Vince wanted to avoid confusion and made his recommendations as clear and solid as possible.
What he allowed in his high definition diet is butter and cream. Both of which are made of milk yet neither contain carbohydrates or protein. Just good old high quality fat.
If you know you do well on natural, organic cottage cheese and cheeses made of certified raw milk, without having any reactions of increased mucus, phlegm or bloat, keep it in your diet. It will give you additional protein as well as variety to your meals.
I want to emphasize the importance of quality. It makes a world of difference! Processed cheese is one third water, one third low quality gelatin and one third cheese plus MANY preservatives so definitely avoid it on any diet if you're at al health conscious.
Have you noticed any symptoms after eating or drinking dairy?
