Water and Weight Loss

Posted by Mike

Believe it or not, there is a connection between water and weight loss. Drink enough water, weight loss will follow! Water has no calories. It quenches your thirst, and it fills you up. In fact, it is easy to mistake thirst for hunger. So, when you feel hungry, drink a glass of water before you eat.

Water is also an essential nutrient that keeps your body temperature in check and flushes waste products out. It helps move fiber through your system as well.

Water also helps to prevent dehydration. When you are dehydrated, you can become tired and irritable and more likely to reach for that junk food.

Another indirect connection between drinking water to lose weight is that when you are exercising (as you should be) to reduce weight, you will need to replace the fluids lost through increased physical activity.

If you want to get rid of water weight, you actually need to drink more water to flush it out! So if you want the benefits of drinking water, how can you add more water to your diet? Experts say to drink eight cups of water a day.

Make it a routine to drink a glass or two when you get up in the morning. Keep a bottle of water on your desk or carry one with you in the car while you are running errands. If plain water doesn’t do it for you, other beverages such as lemon water count toward your eight cups a day.

The problem with other beverages, though, is they often contain added calories and that is not what you want if your goal is to lose weight. Simply add foods that have high water content, to your weight loss diet, such as fruits and vegetables, they are filling, low in calories and count as water as well!
