It is a well known fact that fast food nutrition is generally not the best. It is also a fast food nutritional fact that fast foods are usually high in calories, fat and sodium, and low in nutrients and quality.
But as people become more and more health conscious, many fast food establishments are paying attention to that fact that there is a growing market for more healthy foods, even if the service is fast and the food is inexpensive. Most of the major fast food chains now have healthy foods and often, they will be able to give you their fast food nutrition facts to help you plan your meals.
For example, Burger King offers a broiler chicken sandwich. Without mayonnaise, it contains only 370 calories and 9 grams of fat. Similar choices are available at McDonalds and Wendy’s. Both serve grilled chicken sandwiches that weigh in at about the same as Burger King’s version. And Taco Bell has a grilled chicken burrito at 390 calories and 13 grams of fat. Subway is well known for its low fat sandwich choices, and there are low fat and fat free muffins at Dunkin Donuts.
So, while you will find few fruits and vegetables or healthy whole grains at fast food establishments, it is very possible, with some investigation and planning, to find healthy foods if you eat at these places from time to time. You can find guides in nutrition books or on the web, or check with the individual restaurant and ask for their menu.
