Mike Mentzer what is muscle failure?

Posted by Joseph

I have heard multiple definitions of failure. When you say that the muscles cannot do another rep, do you mean a full rep? What about pain threshold...is this the point of failure?

Does one set to failure mean that I can take a set to 30-50 reps if that range is failure for me on certain exercises?

Could you provide some more specifics on Mr. Mentzer's definition of failure?

Thanks in advance for your time.

"What did Mike consider failure?", well if you get to a point where you can't complete another full rep on your own, that's failure.

Failure simply means do as many reps as you can, maybe for an exercise such as push ups it might take 20 to 50 reps to reach the point where you can't do another rep, but if you are using weights you can adjust it your next workout so you can reach failure in the 8 to 12 rep range.
