Hi
My name is Jay I bought several books from you including your Mike Mentzer and Me Book
I have a question about Mike Mentzer's diet. He ate very little protein in comparison to today's bodybuilder and recommendations.
Is this something that proves true that we don't need all this protein 1-1.5 grams per pound of body weight?
Thanks
Jay

It's interesting, Mike Mentzer was quoting the US RDA for protein which is 0.8 grams per kilogram (g/kg) of body weight a day.
But I recently did some math on his 60 percent Carb, 25 percent Protein and 15 percent Fat diet and here's what I found:
They say to find calorie needs (maintaining not gaining or losing) multiply your weight in pounds by 15
So a 200 pound man would need 3,000 calories
And 25% is 750 calories meaning 187.5 grams of protein
So that's a lot higher than the RDA.
If you have any other questions about Mike Mentzer or High Intensity Training email me and I'll get back to you with an answer as quick as I can.
Best,
Paul
