Bad Crash Diets

Crash diets are usually characterized by someone eating less than 1200 – 1500 calories in a day (depending on the person).  The reason that they are so bad for you is that your body need both fat and carbohydrates to function properly.  Your body can start to run out of carbohydrates only 5 or 6 hours after your last meal, which is why it is important to eat on a regular basis during the day.

Glycogen (carbohydrates) is very important to the function of your brain and muscles.  Once the glycogen in your system has been used to feed your brain and muscles and there is no more left, your body will start to break down your muscles to make more glycogen available to your body.

Losing muscle is bad because muscle burns fat for you, even when you are not doing anything.  The other good thing about muscle is that it makes your butt look good (it really does).
