The Bench Press is Overrated

The bench press is one of the most popular exercises of all. If fact it may be the number one exercise of most guys. If there is one number that most guys know, it is how much they can bench press. NFL The bench press is also the tool used as a measure of upper body strength. The NFL employs it in the Combine to check the strength of recruits. For all it has going for it, the bench press can be overrated. That's because it doesn't always work the chest as good as it could. In fact studies have shown that the decline press is better at activating the pectoral muscles than the bench press. Lots of Chest Exercises If you work your chest you certainly want to use the bench press but you also want to include other tools such as the decline press, the fly, the wide dip, the pec ded and the incline press so that you work the chest muscles completely. The fly works the pec muscles in a different manner than the bench press does. So too does the wide grip dip. So if you only use the bench press you miss out on getting the full potential out of your chest. When working the chest, variety plays a role and means that the bench press, while a great exercise, isn't the only game in town.
